Start of Movare: the healthy elementary school of the future

Just before summer the Province of Limburg decided to approve the total budget of more than 20 million euro and the yearly contribution of the Province until 2020 to the programme Movare: the healthy elementary school of the future.

Initiated by educational board MOVARE, four elementary schools in Limburg will start a large trial with a new educational concept in cooperation with University Maastricht and the Academic Collaborative Centre Limburg. Children will attend school 5 days a week from 08:30 hrs. until 16:00 hrs. During the school day, there is extra attention for sport, culture and health education during a communal healthy lunch. Moreover, children can optionally start the school day with a healthy breakfast and stay until 18:00 hrs. as day care settings will be integrated in the school.

Several CAPHRI researchers cooperate on this initiative. Professor Onno van Schayck (UM) will coordinate the scientific activities on behalf of the UM and Professor Maria Jansen on behalf of the GGD, thereby ensuring that scientific results will directly be implemented at the schools
