Wieneke Mokkink and Maartje van Stralen are both awarded a VENI grant from the The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). With a VENI, highly promising young researchers can further elaborate their own ideas during a period of three years.
Mokkink (Epidemiology & Biostatistics) received a VENI for her research on the choosing the correct tests or instruments in biomedical research. Often, these instruments have poor quality and result in unreliable and invalid results. Mokkink will develop a checklist to help clinicians/researchers to choose the best instrument for their studies, specifically focusing on tests and instruments administered by health-care professionals.
Van Stralen (Health Sciences) was awarded a VENI to study the causes of weight regain. Weight loss results in health benefits in overweight adults, however, only a few people who lose weight, manage to maintain their lost weight. Van Stralen will investigate what causes this regain in weight and how we can prevent people to regain weight.
